Nothing infuriates a fetish more than ineffectual darts.
Piercing Poison Darts
The Dagger of Darts upgrades the Poison Darts of the Witch Doctor and his fetishes: they now pierce their targets and deal considerably more damage in doing so. Instead of fizzling on the first enemy, each dart tears open an entire line, which strongly increases your area damage against rows of foes.
The ceremonial knife is the foundation for Poison Dart fetish builds, in which your little helpers also benefit from the piercing power. My tip: position yourself so enemies line up in front of you, for example in corridors or when luring them in, so a single dart hits as many targets as possible at once. Since the fetishes shoot along too, it pays to keep their number and lifespan high in order to multiply the piercing effect across your entire army.
What the 400 to 500% roll means
The bonus damage rolls in a 400–500% range and applies to your own Poison Darts as well as those of your fetishes. A high roll therefore improves both damage sources at once, and primal ancient copies carry the full 500%. If a drop sits at the bottom of the range, you can reforge it in Kanai's Cube - keeping in mind that the entire item gets rerolled.
Why the elemental damage matters so much
The knife brings 117-469 base damage at 1.40 attacks per second. Most of its weapon damage comes from the random elemental roll of +(981–1,199)–(1,175–1,490), so that is the first number to compare between two knives. Poison, Cold, Fire and Lightning are among the options. +626–750 Intelligence is fixed. Beyond that, Damage %, Attack Speed, a Socket and Area Damage are in demand.
Common companions
The Dagger of Darts is often combined with Carnevil, Mask of Jeram, Depth Diggers, Echoing Fury, Convention of Elements and Squirt's Necklace. The flavor text sums up the power with a wink: fetishes get genuinely angry about darts that fail to do their job.
