Bundled damage in one blow

The Barber completely reworks the Witch Doctor spell Spirit Barrage: instead of hitting instantly, the damage accumulates on the target. Once you stop casting, the target explodes and drags all nearby enemies along with it. This way you trade continuous pressure for a massive, bundled burst.

The ceremonial knife is the heart of modern Spirit Barrage builds and demands a deliberate feel. My tip: charge up the damage by holding the spell on a target, then interrupt it at the right moment, ideally amid a dense group, so the explosion catches as many foes as possible at once. Since the windup takes practice, it pays to tune the timing of the charge and the explosion to your rotation before tackling higher difficulties.

How the explosion is calculated

The explosion deals between 400 and 500% of the accumulated damage; that multiplier is the rolled value, so a high roll enlarges every single detonation. It hits all enemies within 15 yards of the target, including foes you never shot at. That is why it pays to pick a target in the middle of the pack rather than a straggler at the edge. The power only works for the Witch Doctor.

Spirit Barrage and its cost

Unruned, Spirit Barrage fires 4 spirit bolts for a combined 600% weapon damage as Cold and costs 100 Mana. Because the power has you channel the spell for longer stretches, your Mana budget matters: The Spirit Is Willing returns 12 Mana per hit, while Phlebotomize instead heals you for 6437 Life per hit.

Knife or cube

The knife itself carries a fixed 626–750 Intelligence and cold damage. You can place its power in the weapon slot of Kanai's Cube, which is handy because Voo's Juicer, another ceremonial knife, frequently appears alongside it. Other common companions are Gazing Demise, Ring of Emptiness, Lakumba's Ornament, Frostburn and Squirt's Necklace.

The flavor text sums The Barber up briefly as a precision instrument for a master of the blade.
