Blizzard has published the preview for Season 40 'Light's Calling'. Diablo 3's new season starts on October 2, 2026 at 5:00 PM PDT/CEST/KST — a few days after the end of Season 39 'Shades of the Nephalem' on September 28 at 2:00 AM CEST.
The season theme: Angelic Crucibles
Season 40 re-runs the 'Light's Calling' theme, which originally debuted in Season 27. At its core are Angelic Crucibles: consumable items that sanctify any equippable legendary item.
- Each crucible grants one of three random, class-specific powers
- Angelic Crucibles already appeared in Seasons 27 and 34 — Season 40 brings the system back for the third time
- Blizzard's stated goal: expand each class's specialization and put more emphasis on their respective strengths
Haedrig's Gift in Season 40
Completing chapters 2, 3 and 4 of the Season Journey grants three gifts that together make up a full class set, as usual. Only one set per season can be unlocked this way — Hardcore and non-Hardcore combined.
- Barbarian: Horde of the Ninety Savages
- Crusader: Aegis of Valor
- Demon Hunter: Gears of Dreadlands
- Monk: Patterns of Justice
- Necromancer: Masquerade of the Burning Carnival
- Witch Doctor: Mundunugu's Regalia
- Wizard: The Typhon's Veil

Important: what counts is the class of the character you open the gift with, and all three gifts have to be opened on the same character.
Cosmetic rewards
As usual, older rewards return — this time from Season 16 onward. On top come the shoulder and helm slots of the exclusive Conqueror set plus new portrait frames themed around 'Call to Adventure'.
- Wings: 'Wings of Lempo'
- Pet: 'Taennin the Tiny'
- Portrait: 'Primal Hunter'

Season Journey and extra stash tab
The Season Journey covers eight objectives up to Conqueror tier — including timed portals, upgrading legendary gems, killing Azmodan in under 30 seconds on Torment X, and Kanai's Cube reforges. Completing it awards one additional stash tab — one per season, up to a maximum of five.
Seasonal Conquests
The Conquests rotate again. These five return in Season 40 — the first name is the non-Hardcore version, the second the Hardcore one:
- Speed Demon/Need for Speed — complete a Nephalem Rift at max level on Torment X within 2 minutes
- On a Good Day/I Can't Stop — level three Legendary Gems to rank 65
- Boss Mode/Worlds Apart — kill the bosses listed in the Conquest at max level on Torment X within 20 minutes of the start of the game
- Curses!/Stars Align — kill 350 or more monsters in a Cursed Chest event at level 70 on Torment X
- Years of War/Dynasty — reach Greater Rift level 55 solo with the bonuses of six of the class sets listed in the Conquest
Two of them also count toward the extra stash tab: the Conqueror tier of the Season Journey requires you to complete two Conquests this season.
Once Season 40 goes live, we'll update this article and our season overview with every confirmed detail, patch notes and build recommendations.
