This finger belonged to an Umbaru priest who had lost his legs and would summon smaller gargantuans to carry him to rituals. Although he has long since gone to Mbwiru Eikura, his finger remains a conduit to his strange practices.
The Short Man's Finger
This ring completely reworks Gargantuan for the Witch Doctor: instead of one giant companion you now summon three smaller gargantuans whose damage is also greatly increased. A single summon becomes a small strike force that piles far more pressure on the enemy.
More bodies mean more simultaneous hits, more triggers for secondary effects and a wider spread of your damage across the battlefield. The ring is a cornerstone of any summoner-oriented Witch Doctor. My tip: pair it with gear that empowers your summons or boosts their longevity and aggression, so the three gargantuans fight at your side permanently and keep delivering their boosted damage.
Which Gargantuan Rune Suits Three of Them
Gargantuan itself has a 60-second cooldown and attacks for 450% of your weapon damage as Physical. Choose the rune carefully:
- Restless Giant enrages the gargantuan for 15 seconds when it meets an elite or faces 5 enemies: 20% movement speed, 35% attack speed and 200% Physical damage, at most once every 45 seconds.
- Humongoid grants Cleave for 585% weapon damage as Cold against several enemies.
- Bruiser periodically knocks enemies down and stuns them for 3 seconds.
- Big Stinker surrounds it with a poison cloud.
Be careful with Wrathful Protector: that rune summons a gargantuan that only fights at your side for 15 seconds - a poor fit if you want to keep your gargantuans around permanently.
Stats on the Ring
The damage bonus rolls 500–650%, and a Primal Ancient ring carries the full 650%. The fixed stat is Critical Hit Damage, whose 26–50% range is wide enough to separate two otherwise identical rings clearly. Add +416–500 Intelligence plus Critical Hit Chance, Area Damage, Attack Speed, Cooldown Reduction or a Socket. The ring is often worn with the Mask of Jeram and pieces such as Helltooth Gauntlets, Helltooth Greaves, Helltooth Leg Guards, Helltooth Mantle and Helltooth Tunic.
Where the Name Comes From
The flavor text explains it: the ring belonged to an Umbaru priest who had lost his legs and summoned smaller gargantuans to carry him to his rituals.
