"The witch doctor was eager to display his martial prowess, and he was especially proud of his enchanted belt, which he claimed gave him great advantage in battle. It was obviously an item of great importance to him and had been in his clan for generations untold." —Abd al-Hazir
Locust Swarm as a slow
The Hwoj Wrap grants the Witch Doctor skill Locust Swarm a powerful slow: affected enemies are noticeably hampered, turning the already area-covering swarm into a valuable control tool. Since Locust Swarm spreads from enemy to enemy, you distribute the slow across entire packs almost incidentally, with no extra effort. The belt also brings all-resistance for a bit more sturdiness.
The slowed enemies hold each other up, bunch together more tightly and are therefore easier to catch with your area effects. My tip: cast Locust Swarm early and generously to brake an incoming wave before it reaches you. That buys time for your main rotation and turns a fairly low-damage skill into the backbone of your battlefield control.
Roll range and spread
The slow rolls between 60 and 80%; a copy at 60% sits at the low end, while a Primal Ancient brings the full 80%. Locust Swarm costs 300 Mana, deals 1040% weapon damage as Poison to an enemy over 8 seconds and jumps to other nearby enemies. Every jump carries the slow along with it.
Which Locust Swarm rune fits
- Pestilence gives the swarm a 100% chance to jump to two more enemies instead of one - spreading the slow correspondingly faster.
- Cloud of Insects reduces the damage of affected enemies by 25%; together with the slow, the swarm becomes a strong defensive tool.
- Devouring Swarm grants 25 Mana per second while the first enemy is being attacked, helping with the high cost.
- Diseased Swarm leaves a cloud dealing 750% Poison damage over 3 seconds when affected enemies die, while Searing Locusts turns it into Fire damage at 1480%.
Stats and an heirloom
Every copy has 91 to 100 Resistance to All Elements, plus Strength, Dexterity or Intelligence at 416 to 500 points - for a Witch Doctor, Intelligence counts. According to Abd al-Hazir, a witch doctor was especially proud of this enchanted belt, which had been in his clan for generations untold and was said to give him a great advantage in battle.
