Protection Through the Dash

Crystal Fist rewards the Monk's mobility with defense: cast Dashing Strike and the damage you take drops noticeably for a few seconds. Since this dash skill is already central to the Monk's positioning and pace, you gain the damage bonus almost as a side effect - a welcome cushion in the middle of hectic melee.

The fist weapon fits virtually any Monk build that uses Dashing Strike regularly. Time your dash so the damage reduction stays up as continuously as possible - a deliberate cast right before heavy damage phases pays off in particular. That way you turn a pure mobility skill into a reliable survival tool without having to sacrifice a separate defensive slot.
