Pool of the item type from the game files, version 2.8.0. Skill damage bonuses only carry weight for their class. All properties of this slot
The favored weapon of Master Necromancer Ordan, renowned teacher of the Priests of Rathma. He was so devoted to this weapon that he would rather part with his life than have it leave his side.
Death Nova That Grows With the Horde
The Bloodtide Blade rewards you for being surrounded by enemies: your Death Nova deals additional damage per nearby foe, up to a generous cap on targets. The denser the crowd around your Necromancer, the more forcefully each Nova detonates, turning an area skill into a genuine mass destroyer.
The scythe is the heart of Death Nova Necromancer builds that thrive in large packs. Tip: Deliberately dive into the middle of the enemies instead of staying at the edge, and pull foes in as tight as possible before you detonate the Nova. Cast it repeatedly while the horde is large, because only in dense crowds do you reach the full damage bonus. Make sure you keep enough Essence for an unbroken series of detonations.
The numbers behind the power
Every enemy within 25 yards counts, up to 10 of them. The bonus per enemy rolls between 300 and 400%, and since it is applied again for each counted enemy, a high roll makes a big difference in large groups. The power only works for the Necromancer.
Choosing a Death Nova rune
- Blight leaves a patch that slows enemies by 60%, which pairs well with Krysbin's Sentence, a frequent companion of the scythe that deals extra damage to slowed enemies.
- Blood Nova costs 10% health but hits for 450% weapon damage across the full 25 yard radius.
- Tendril Nova heals you for every target hit, at the cost of lower damage.
- Bone Nova only reaches enemies within 12 yards, even though the power still counts every enemy within 25 yards.
Cube and stats
As a two-handed scythe the blade occupies both hands, whereas its power only takes the weapon slot in Kanai's Cube. Worn directly, it brings a fixed 946–1,125 Intelligence and Vitality plus a rolled weapon damage bonus. It is often combined with Haunted Visions, Iron Rose, Scythe of the Cycle, Steuart's Greaves and Funerary Pick.
Ordan's weapon
According to the flavor text, the scythe was the favored weapon of Master Necromancer Ordan, a renowned teacher of the Priests of Rathma, who would rather have given up his life than part with it.
