"And Yaerius appeared unto Akarat and showed him the Light that illuminates all souls with its blessed power. So long as we trust in this sacred force, we shall have strength everlasting and falter not in our trials." —Excerpt from a mystic’s account of the life of Akarat

Akarat's Awakening

Akarat's Awakening turns blocking into cooldown reduction: every successfully blocked hit has a chance to shorten all of your cooldowns. For Crusaders this is powerful, since they already lean on high block chance and defensive cooldowns like Akarat's Champion, Bombardment, or protective skills. By intercepting many hits, you keep your key abilities active almost permanently.

The effect clearly scales with block chance and hit frequency, meaning dense packs. That makes the shield ideal for tanky builds standing in the thick of battle. You can wear the shield or extract the power into the weapon slot of Kanai's Cube (off-hand powers count as weapons there); combine it with additional block sources to trigger the cooldown reduction reliably.

What a Single Block Is Worth

Every successful block has a 20–25% chance to reduce all cooldowns by 1 second. Two levers decide how often that happens: how often you get hit and how many of those hits you block. The shield itself brings a fixed +11% Chance to Block. A high roll on the power pays off, and a Primal Ancient gives the full 25%.

Because one trigger hits every cooldown at once, the value grows with each cooldown skill on your bar. A bar with several of them gets more out of every hit than one that relies on a single cooldown.

The Right Stats on the Shield

Next to the fixed block value, the shield rolls +626–750 Strength, Dexterity or Intelligence - as a Crusader you take Strength. For the other slots, Cooldown Reduction, Area Damage, Bombardment damage and Thorns fit well. The shield is often combined with Burden of the Invoker, the Aquila Cuirass, Convention of Elements, Belt of the Trove, Greaves of Valor and Stone Gauntlets.

The Light of Yaerius

The flavor text is taken from a mystic's account of Akarat's life: Yaerius appeared to Akarat and showed him the Light that illuminates all souls. Those who trust in it are promised lasting strength through every trial - a fitting motif for a shield that draws new power from every blow it stops.
