Pool of the item type from the game files, version 2.8.0. Skill damage bonuses only carry weight for their class. All properties of this slot

Slender and refined, this weapon is the antithesis of a traditional, rough-hewn and unwieldy crossbow. Obviously the result of loving craftsmanship by a master armsmaker.

Marked for Death Without a Keypress

Calamity takes work off the Demon Hunter's hands: deal damage to an enemy and you automatically cast Marked for Death on them. This strong debuff increases the damage the target takes, and with this hand crossbow it runs entirely on its own - you sacrifice neither a skill slot nor resources for it.

That makes the weapon an elegant solution for builds that bake Marked for Death firmly into their damage math but would rather use the space for other abilities. The freed-up skill slot can serve a mobility or defensive ability, for instance. My tip: deliberately use the freed slot for a skill that improves your survivability or mobility - Calamity keeps the valuable Marked for Death bonus running automatically in the background anyway.

What Marked for Death Actually Does

Cast by hand, Marked for Death costs 3 Discipline and marks one enemy, which then takes 15% additional damage for 30 seconds. The hand crossbow ties the cast to any damage you deal instead - every enemy you hit gets marked. Against groups that is a real difference from marking targets by hand.

The skill's runes, such as Mortal Enemy with 4 Hatred per attack against marked enemies or Grim Reaper, which spreads 15% of the damage to enemies within 20 yards, belong to the skill itself. The power text does not say whether the automatic mark carries a rune.

Hand Crossbow Stats

The power has no range, so the differences lie in the affixes. Dexterity is fixed at +626–750, and the weapon rolls +(858–1,049)–(1,028–1,304) damage of one element or plain damage. Its base values are 126-714 damage and 1.60 attacks per second. A Primal Ancient copy brings 750 Dexterity.

Refined, Not Rough

The flavor text describes a slender, refined weapon - the antithesis of the usual rough-hewn, unwieldy crossbow and the work of a master armsmaker. A deliberate contrast to the name.
