Aquila Cuirass
The Aquila Cuirass halves all incoming damage while your primary resource stays above a high threshold. This is a huge, class-agnostic layer of defense, but it requires you to deliberately keep your resource topped up instead of dumping it on expensive skills. The moment you drop below the threshold, the protection vanishes.
That is why the chest piece shines in builds that naturally keep their resource near full, for example through generators or cheap skills. Its power works from the armor slot of Kanai's Cube as well. The three sockets add room for vitality or main stat. Plan your resource management so you stay above the line at all times.
Why a Low Roll Wins Here
The 90–95% range does not belong to the damage reduction - that is fixed at 50% - but to the threshold. Unlike almost every other power, you want the lowest value you can get: at 90% you can spend more of your resource before the protection drops, while at 95% even a small expense breaks it. When comparing two cuirasses, check this number first and the main stat roll second.
In practice, your resource needs time to climb back over the line between two spends. The more a single skill costs relative to your resource pool, the longer the halving stays off.
Stats, Cube and Common Pairings
Next to its three fixed sockets, the chest rolls +416–500 Dexterity, Intelligence or Strength. For the open slots, Vitality, Armor, Damage Reduction from Elites and Melee Damage Reduction are sensible targets. If you put the power in the cube, your chest slot opens up for a different chest piece.
The Cuirass is frequently paired with Convention of Elements, Squirt's Necklace, Unity, Stone Gauntlets, Ice Climbers and Blackthorne's Jousting Mail. According to its flavor text, it is ceremonial armor commemorating the chieftain Ghaold's victory over the wild men from the east.
