Effect
Power Hungry
Power Hungry rewards wizards who fight at range: enemies far enough away from you take additional damage. The passive therefore fits builds perfectly that work from a safe distance with bolts, beams or summons and prefer never to let foes get close in the first place.
The appeal is that with good positioning you can keep the bonus up almost continuously, as long as you maintain distance and kite. Paired with slows, freeze effects or high mobility this is very doable and makes Power Hungry a strong, gear-free damage multiplier for ranged playstyles. The moment you get dragged into melee or your build depends on being close, however, the bonus drops away and the slot stops paying off. It is thus a highly effective but conditional passive for disciplined long-range players.
Making the most of the 30-yard line
The 30% bonus only applies to enemies more than 30 yards away from you. What counts is your own position relative to the target, so if you pick Power Hungry, favor spells with long reach or an effect at the target location. Black Hole fits well: it forms at the chosen spot, pulls enemies together there and hits them with Arcane damage while you stay at a distance.
Its counterpart is Audacity, which only boosts nearby enemies. Taking both makes no sense for the same target, so commit to one range.
Power Hungry is available from level 10, making it an early damage option while leveling if you already play with ranged spells.
Fitting partners
Teleport restores the needed gap when enemies do get too close. Galvanizing Ward complements the playstyle naturally: its shield builds up after 5 seconds without taking damage, which is much easier when you keep enemies at range. Elemental Exposure works regardless of distance and stacks with the bonus. Magic Weapon and Storm Armor run in the background as permanent enhancements.
