Mirror Image

Mirror Image summons illusory copies of yourself that taunt enemies and pull their attention onto the clones. The duplicates last several seconds, draw fire away from you and can deal a bit of damage themselves, which makes the spell a versatile tool for defense, distraction and emergency exits.

The runes shift its purpose noticeably. Extension of Will strengthens the images considerably in duration and durability, so they last longer as decoys and keep more hits off you, ideal for defensive or kiting playstyles. Mocking Demise, by contrast, turns the clones into little bombs that explode when destroyed and can even stun enemies, which is interesting offensively and for control. Combined with the Illusionist passive, Mirror Image can also serve as a nearly always-available panic button, because heavy hits reset its cooldown.

Runes by unlock level

  • Hard Light (from level 31): the images have 200% of your Life.
  • Duplicates (level 37): 4 images instead of 2, each with 50% of your Life.
  • Mocking Demise (level 45): destroyed images explode for 309% weapon damage as Arcane with a 50% chance to stun for 2 seconds.
  • Extension of Will (level 51): 10 instead of 7 seconds duration and 100% of your Life.
  • Mirror Mimics (level 58): the images' spells deal 20% instead of 10% of your own spells' damage.

What the images actually do

The taunt lasts only 1 second right at the summon; after that the images serve as extra targets that draw fire away from you. They cast your spells along with you, but at only 10% of the damage. With a 7-second duration and a 15-second cooldown, they are up for just under half the time. Duplicates doubles the number of decoys, while Mocking Demise rewards enemies destroying the images.

Illusionist resets the cooldown

The Illusionist passive resets Mirror Image's cooldown when you take more than 15% of your maximum Life as damage within 1 second. Right when you need decoys most, Mirror Image is ready again immediately. Illusionist also briefly raises your movement speed after every Mirror Image cast, making it easier to retreat behind the images.
