Meteor
Meteor calls a massive boulder from the sky that slams down with force and also leaves a burning patch at the point of impact. The spell deals very high damage on a single spot, but in return carries hefty Arcane Power costs and a small delay before impact, which calls for some target prediction.
The runes change punch and handling considerably. Molten Impact massively raises both the impact damage and the lingering burn area, but adds a cooldown and turns Meteor into a heavy burst hit rather than a spam spell. Star Pact, by contrast, makes it a resource annihilator that consumes all of your Arcane Power and converts it into damage, ideal for builds that generate plenty of resource and want to dump it in a single blow. If you dislike the delay, Thunder Crash provides instant impact. Meteor can thus be tuned for burst or fast rotation.
Comet and Meteor Shower
- Comet (level 43): the same damage as the base spell, but as Cold; Chilled enemies are Frozen for 1 second on impact, and an icy mist replaces the molten fire.
- Meteor Shower (level 48): instead of one big rock, 7 small Meteors fall for 277% weapon damage each – spread wider, good against scattered packs.
In practice, Thunder Crash and Comet dominate – both change the element, which is crucial for the Tal Rasha's Elements set.
Tal Rasha's Elements
The 2-piece bonus drops a Meteor of the matching type whenever you deal Arcane, Cold, Fire or Lightning damage – provided Meteor is on your action bar. With 4 pieces, every Meteor attack cuts the Teleport cooldown by 1 second. The 6-piece bonus counts different elements; Thunder Crash or Comet turn Meteor into a Lightning or Cold attack respectively. Elemental Exposure likewise rewards hits with different elements.
Nilfur's Boast and The Grand Vizier
- Nilfur's Boast (boots): Meteor deals 600% increased damage, and when it hits 3 or fewer enemies, the description raises the damage by 675–900%. That makes Meteor especially rewarding against single targets such as Rift Guardians.
- The Grand Vizier (staff): halves the cost of 40 Arcane Power and raises the damage by 300–400%.
