Tempest Rush

Tempest Rush is the monk's channeled storm skill: you barrel without pause through the ranks of your enemies, dealing damage to them the whole time. Because you move freely while channeling, the skill serves as both mobility and area damage, making it the foundation of brisk, highly mobile builds in which you practically plow through the rift. The spirit cost, though, forces you to keep an eye on your resource.

Northern Breeze is often the first choice here, since it lowers the cost while also raising the damage and converting it to Holy, making sustained channeling much easier. If you want even more speed, Tailwind accelerates your movement and underscores the skill's running character. Players leaning on elemental sets will find fitting lightning and cold variants in Electric Field and Flurry respectively.

Flurry and Bluster

In practice, Tempest Rush is mostly run with Flurry (level 33): when you stop channeling, an icy blast hits everything within 15 yards, and its damage grows by 90% weapon damage while you channel. The rhythm is: run through the pack, stop, trigger the blast. Bluster (level 56) knocks enemies back and reduces their damage by 20% for 4 seconds.

Items that change Tempest Rush

  • Cesar's Memento (bracers): enemies you Blind, Freeze or Stun take 600–800% increased damage from Tempest Rush for 5 seconds – Blinding Flash is the obvious trigger.
  • Won Khim Lau (fist weapon): hits activate Cyclone Strike, and both skills deal 500–600% increased damage.
  • Balance (daibo): 450–600% more damage and 100% Critical Hit Chance when hitting 3 or fewer enemies.
  • Warstaff of General Quang (daibo): grants the Tailwind effect, freeing up the rune slot.
  • Mantle of Channeling: as a channeled skill, you gain 20–25% more damage and take 25% less.

Sweeping Wind and the sets

The most frequent partner is Sweeping Wind. In Patterns of Justice, Tempest Rush attacks cut your damage taken by 50% and raise Spirit Regeneration by 50; with 6 pieces, all damage rises by 20,000% when you hit while Sweeping Wind is active. In Monkey King's Garb, Tempest Rush damage grows by 1500% per Sweeping Wind stack.
