Lashing Tail Kick

Lashing Tail Kick is a spirit spender and one of the monk's hardest-hitting single blows. With a mighty roundhouse kick you dish out heavy damage in an area in front of you, making it an excellent main damage source once enough spirit is available, fed for instance by generators or by Epiphany.

For pure area force, Sweeping Armada is the obvious pick, since it enlarges the area of effect and so catches whole enemy groups at once, perfect for clearing dense pulls. If you want the damage to work over time or an elemental focus, Vulture Claw Kick delivers a wave of fire that additionally deals lingering fire damage and combines well with fire-based items. So Lashing Tail Kick remains a flexible spender that, with the right rune, can become the load-bearing pillar of a build.

Spinning Flame Kick, Scorpion Sting and Hand of Ytar

Lashing Tail Kick is available from level 2:

  • Spinning Flame Kick (level 28): a column of fire burns through enemies, hitting each for 755% weapon damage as Fire – a line instead of a circle.
  • Scorpion Sting (level 38): enemies hit are Stunned for 2 seconds, and the damage becomes Lightning.
  • Hand of Ytar (level 52): enemies are Chilled at long range and Slowed by 80% for 3 seconds; the damage becomes Cold.

Vulture Claw Kick is available from level 7, Sweeping Armada from level 15 with 825% within 15 yards.

Items for the kick

  • Rivera Dancers (boots): 50% faster attacks and 250–300% more damage.
  • Scarbringer (fist weapon): 450–600% more damage to the first 7 enemies hit.
  • Gyana Na Kashu (source): every kick also releases a piercing fireball dealing 1,050–1,400% Fire damage within 10 yards of the impact point.

Monkey King's Garb and Spirit

The Monkey King's Garb set ties the kick to Sweeping Wind: each stack raises Lashing Tail Kick damage by 1500%, and with 2 pieces you take 50% less damage while Sweeping Wind is active. At 50 Spirit per kick you need a reliable supply – via Epiphany, for example. The Transcendence passive heals you for every point of Spirit spent, which adds up noticeably with such an expensive spender.
