Vengeance
Vengeance is a powerful buff skill on a long cooldown that turns you into a walking fortress of firepower for a short time: extra side cannons and homing rockets fire automatically while all of your damage rises sharply. It's a classic burst and boss cooldown you save for the most intense phases of a fight.
Dark Heart is one of the most valuable runes, since it drastically reduces your incoming damage, turning Vengeance into a combined offensive and survival button – very popular in the higher difficulty tiers. If you'd rather ease your Hatred economy, Seethe grants you fresh Hatred every second and keeps your spenders running smoothly for the buff's duration. So depending on the rune, the skill serves either as a sturdy defensive cooldown or as a resource engine for pure damage.
The runes from level 62
Vengeance only unlocks at level 61, and all of its runes follow between levels 62 and 69:
- Personal Mortar (62) replaces the Homing Rockets with 2 Grenades per attack at enemies outside melee range, 150% weapon damage as Fire each.
- Dark Heart (63) reduces damage taken by 50% and is by far the most common pick.
- Side Cannons (65) turns the side guns into slower cannons dealing 225% weapon damage that heal you for 3.0% of maximum Life per enemy hit.
- Seethe (67) grants 10 Hatred per second.
- From the Shadows (69) summons allies instead of rockets, dealing 120% weapon damage as Cold and Freezing enemies for 3 seconds.
Items that change Vengeance
The helm Visage of Gunes gives Vengeance the Dark Heart effect permanently. That frees the rune slot for Seethe, for example, giving you damage reduction and Hatred at once. The hand crossbow Dawn cuts the cooldown by 50–65%; with a 90-second base cooldown and a 20-second duration, Vengeance moves toward near-permanent uptime, so a high roll is clearly worth it.
Vengeance in set bonuses
Two sets include Vengeance in their 6-piece bonuses: Embodiment of the Marauder raises its damage by 9500% per active Sentry, and Unhallowed Essence by 1700% per point of Discipline. The latter pairs well with Preparation, which refills Discipline, as well as Smoke Screen and Shadow Power as defensive tools.
