Effect
Tactical Advantage
Tactical Advantage is a mobility passive that grants you a solid burst of movement speed after using certain skills – such as Vault, Shadow Power or Smoke Screen. Since the Demon Hunter fires these tools often anyway, the speed bonus can be kept up almost continuously in many builds, making it a popular pick for smooth, fast travel.
The slot is most worthwhile in speed and farm builds where you cover large distances and every burst of speed saves time. Defensively, the extra pace also helps you dodge dangerous effects and enemies. In stationary setups like pure Sentry builds, where you barely move, the benefit drops. So you pick it deliberately when mobility is a central part of your playstyle.
The four triggers in detail
The bonus is 60% movement speed for 2 seconds. It is triggered by Vault, Shadow Power, Smoke Screen and the backflip from Evasive Fire. That backflip only happens when an enemy stands right in front of you, so you can't use it freely for travel, but you get the speed exactly when something gets too close.
Because the effect is short, timing matters: Smoke Screen has a very short cooldown, which makes it the most reliable trigger if you want to keep the bonus up almost without gaps.
The Discipline question
Smoke Screen and Shadow Power cost Discipline, so refreshing the bonus constantly needs a steady supply:
- Preparation restores Discipline on demand and keeps the Smoke Screen and Shadow Power chain going.
- Blood Vengeance makes health globes return Discipline as well as Hatred and raises your maximum Hatred.
Other partners
Vengeance is the damage window in which you still have to move, and extra speed helps keep enemies in firing position. Ambush rewards hits on untouched enemies, and advancing quickly to the next pack keeps supplying such targets. Since the passive unlocks at level 10, it can travel with you from the very start.
