Sentry

Sentry plants an automatically firing turret that shoots nearby enemies and stays active for a long while. Since you can run several turrets at once and they bank charges, you build a stationary damage net – the foundation of one of the most iconic Demon Hunter playstyles, where the turrets multiply your damage while you handle positioning and buffs.

Spitfire Turret is the classic damage rune, because the extra homing rockets noticeably raise output and scale especially well with setups that live off the turrets anyway. If you want more control, Polar Station makes the turrets chill enemies and heavily throttle their movement, giving you space and keeping foes in the line of fire. So depending on the rune you use the turrets either as pure damage sources or as controlling anchor points.

Charges, duration and Custom Engineering

From level 25 you place a turret for 20 Hatred that fires at nearby enemies for 30 seconds. A charge arrives every 8 seconds, up to 2 at a time, and up to 2 turrets can be active. The passive Custom Engineering doubles turret duration and raises the maximum number and charges to 3, which is why it so often sits alongside.

Polar Station, Chain of Torment and the other runes

Spitfire Turret (level 28) adds homing rockets for 120% weapon damage as Fire, and Impaling Bolt (level 36) makes the bolts pierce. Chain of Torment (level 45) links you to your turrets and the turrets to each other with chains that deal 300% weapon damage per second to every enemy they touch, so each extra turret adds more chain segments. Polar Station (level 52) Chills enemies within 16 yards by 60% and is the common pick in practice. Guardian Turret (level 60) reduces damage taken by allies by 25%.

Helltrapper and other partners

The hand crossbow Helltrapper (Demon Hunter only) has a 7–10% chance on hit to summon a Spike Trap, Caltrops or a Sentry. Evasive Fire generates the Hatred for new turrets. Smoke Screen, Ambush, Companion and Vengeance are frequent partners too.
