Rain of Vengeance

Rain of Vengeance is a powerful area skill on a cooldown that blankets a large zone with raining arrows for several seconds. Since it costs no resources and spreads enormous sustained damage over time, it's excellent for wiping out whole groups and fits many speed and trash-clear builds where you erase packs in passing.

Dark Cloud is an especially popular choice, since the homing arrows pelt down over a long window and the total damage reliably sticks to tough enemies. If you favor elemental synergies, Stampede offers a strong alternative: the sweeping shadow beasts knock foes back and deal massive Fire damage, adding extra control to the fight. So depending on your damage element and build focus, you choose between blanket sustained damage and a more bursty, controlling variant.

Runes by unlock level

  • Dark Cloud (from level 35): guided arrows, 3500% weapon damage over 8 seconds.
  • Shade (level 40): 2800% weapon damage as Lightning over 5 seconds.
  • Stampede (level 47): 10 Shadow Beasts sweep across the ground, knocking enemies back for 4600% weapon damage as Fire over 3 seconds.
  • Anathema (level 54): a Shadow Beast drops grenades for 5800% weapon damage as Fire over just 2 seconds. Since these are grenades, the Grenadier passive boosts this rune.
  • Flying Strike (level 60): 8 Shadow Beasts, 3800% weapon damage as Cold over 5 seconds, freezing enemies for 2 seconds.

Damage over a short or long window

The runes differ sharply in how quickly the damage lands. Anathema packs the highest value into 2 seconds and rewards holding enemies in one spot beforehand. Dark Cloud spreads its damage over 8 seconds but also hits enemies that move around. Stampede and Flying Strike add control through knockback or freezing.

Crashing Rain and weapon choice

The belt Crashing Rain also summons a crashing beast with every cast for 3,000–4,000% weapon damage, so a high roll is worthwhile. Since Rain of Vengeance requires a bow or crossbow, the Archery passive adds either more damage or more Critical Hit Damage on top.
