Multishot
Multishot is the Demon Hunter's key area-of-effect Hatred spender, loosing a wide volley that hits every enemy in the cone ahead of you. The skill excels at clearing large groups fast and forms the backbone of many speed and trash-clearing builds where you plow continuously through hordes. A bow or crossbow is mandatory, and a solid Hatred supply keeps the volleys going.
Full Broadside raises the damage per volley noticeably and makes each shot deadlier when sheer power matters most. If you'd rather fire without pause, Fire at Will lowers the Hatred cost for near-continuous shooting and its switch to Lightning scales well with matching bonuses. That way you balance resource efficiency against maximum area damage depending on your build.
Arsenal and the other runes
At base, a volley costs 25 Hatred and hits for 360% weapon damage. Fire at Will (level 26) lowers the cost to 18, Wind Chill (level 31) chills and raises the chance to be critically hit by 8%, Suppression Fire (level 39) knocks back the first 4 enemies, and Full Broadside (level 46) lifts the damage to 500%. In practice, though, Arsenal (level 55) dominates: every shot also launches 3 rockets dealing 300% weapon damage as Fire each.
Quiver and bow
Dead Man's Legacy makes Multishot hit enemies below 60% health twice and raises its damage by 150–200%, so weakened packs melt noticeably faster. Yang's Recurve makes the volleys 50% faster and also raises the damage by 150–200%.
Unhallowed Essence and Embodiment of the Marauder
With Unhallowed Essence, every point of Discipline counts: the 6-piece bonus raises Multishot's damage by 1700% per point of Discipline you have. The 2-piece bonus makes generators such as Evasive Fire supply extra Discipline, and Preparation refills it on demand. Every Smoke Screen, on the other hand, costs Discipline and briefly lowers the bonus. The 4-piece bonus rewards distance: with no enemy within 10 yards, you gain 60% damage reduction and 60% increased damage for 8 seconds.
With Embodiment of the Marauder, your Sentries fire Multishot at the same time as you.
