Evasive Fire

Evasive Fire is a Hatred generator with built-in mobility: you fire three bolts and perform a backflip as soon as an enemy stands directly in front of you. The skill thus combines resource building with an automatic repositioning tool that helps you keep distance and avoid melee. For a class that lives on range, that's an elegant blend of offense and defense.

The rune choice depends on whether you want to keep the flip. Surge extends the flip distance and makes kiting even more responsive. If the involuntary backflip bothers you, Focus disables it but in return noticeably raises Hatred generation and converts the damage to cold, strengthening the generator role. So you tailor the skill either to a mobile or to a stationary, resource-heavy playstyle.

Three bolts, one backflip, five runes

The main bolt hits the primary target for 200% weapon damage, two more enemies take 100% each, and every cast generates 4 Hatred. The backflip covers 5 yards, and you need a bow.

  • Hardened (level 21): instead of flipping, 25% more Armor for 3 seconds.
  • Parting Gift (level 26): each backflip leaves a bomb that deals 150% weapon damage in a 12 yard radius after 0.6 seconds.
  • Covering Fire (level 34): the side bolts hit for 200% as Fire.
  • Focus (level 42): no backflip, but 7 Hatred per cast.
  • Surge (level 53): 15 yard backflip, damage as Lightning.

In practice Focus dominates, followed by Hardened, and both give up the backflip.

The backflip and Tactical Advantage

There is a trade-off here: Tactical Advantage grants movement speed when Evasive Fire makes you backflip. With Focus or Hardened that trigger disappears, and speed only comes from Smoke Screen, Shadow Power or Vault. That is easy to live with, since Smoke Screen is one of the most common partners anyway.

Evasive Fire as the Hatred supply for Multishot

Evasive Fire funds Hatred spenders such as Multishot and accompanies Vengeance as the big damage window. Ambush rounds out the passives.
