Season 40 'Call of Light': Starts October 2, 2026 — Everything from the Preview

Season 40 begins on October 2, 2026 at 5:00 PM CEST and re-runs the 'Shades of the Nephalem' theme — with Angelic Crucibles, new class powers and every reward.

Blizzard has published the preview for Season 40 'Call of Light'. Diablo 3's new season starts on October 2, 2026 at 5:00 PM CEST/UTC/KST — right after Season 39 'Shades of the Nephalem' ends on September 28 at 2:00 AM CEST.

The season theme: Angelic Crucibles

Season 40 re-runs the 'Shades of the Nephalem' theme, which originally debuted in Season 22. New this time is a standalone mechanic built around so-called Angelic Crucibles: consumable items that sanctify legendary gear.

  • Each crucible grants one of three random, class-specific powers
  • The three new powers per class were designed specifically for Season 40
  • Blizzard's stated goal: expand each class's specialization and put more emphasis on their respective strengths

Haedrig's Gift in Season 40

Completing chapters 2, 3 and 4 of the Season Journey grants three gifts that together make up a full class set, as usual. Only one set per season can be unlocked this way — Hardcore and non-Hardcore combined.

  • Barbarian: Horde of the Ninety Savages
  • Crusader: Aegis of Valor
  • Demon Hunter: Gears of Dreadlands
  • Monk: Patterns of Justice
  • Necromancer: Masquerade of the Burning Carnival
  • Witch Doctor: Mundunugu's Regalia
  • Wizard: The Typhon's Veil

Important: what counts is the class of the character you open the gift with, and all three gifts have to be opened on the same character.

Cosmetic rewards

As usual, older rewards return — this time from Season 16 onward. On top come the shoulder and helm slots of the exclusive Conqueror set plus new portrait frames themed around 'Call to Adventure'.

Season Journey and extra stash tab

The Season Journey covers eight objectives up to Conqueror tier — including timed portals, upgrading legendary gems, boss kills within 20 minutes of game start, and Kanai's Cube reforges. Completing it awards up to five bonus stash tab slots.
