Zei's Stone of Vengeance
This legendary gem rewards fighting from a distance: your damage rises with every stretch of distance between you and the enemy you hit, up to a notable maximum bonus at full range. The farther away a target is, the harder you hit it, which makes the gem mandatory for pure ranged builds.
The effect is class-independent but shines on shooters and casters like the Demon Hunter or Wizard, who already deal their damage from afar. Practical tip: deliberately keep distance from your targets instead of closing to melee, because only at maximum range do you reap the full multiplier. Combine the gem with kiting and positioning so your most important hits always land from the greatest possible distance.
The Scale in Numbers
The bonus grows in steps: 4.00% more damage per 10 yards between you and the enemy hit, up to a maximum of 20.00% at 50 yards. The full bonus only arrives at long range - fighting at half that distance gets you only part of it. What matters is the distance to the enemy hit, not to any enemy nearby: a projectile landing deep in the back of a pack benefits more than one striking the front row.
What to Keep in Mind
The gem has neither random properties nor a roll you could improve; the values given here apply to every Zei's Stone of Vengeance alike. Whether it pays off depends solely on how far away you typically hit your enemies. For melee fighters whose hits almost always land at close range, little of the bonus remains.
Zei - Legend or Invention?
The flavor text stays ambiguous: one legend says Zei crafted the gem to torment fleeing enemies - fitting for a bonus that grows with distance. Other legends claim Zei never existed.
