A Damage Spike Against Controlled Enemies
Bane of the Trapped increases your damage against any enemy suffering from a crowd-control effect, meaning frozen, stunned or slowed foes. Since many builds already bring slowing or rooting effects of their own, this bonus is surprisingly easy to keep up across the board.
At higher ranks the gem also activates its own slowing aura around you, which means the damage bonus applies to essentially every nearby enemy. That makes it one of the strongest all-around gems in the game, fitting practically every class and any build that fights up close. Tip: Invest in the ranks early to unlock the aura. After that you barely need to worry about the condition anymore and enjoy the full bonus permanently.
How the Condition Is Checked
The power checks each enemy on its own: if that particular target is currently under a control-impairing effect, it takes 15.00% more damage from you. A frozen enemy in a pack takes more damage, while its unaffected neighbor does not. In practice, effects that hit whole groups at once get more out of the gem than those that only catch a single target.
The bonus is not tied to any element or specific skill. It applies to your damage against the affected target - whether you strike with a melee attack or a spell.
No Roll, No Choice
Unlike a legendary item, the gem has no range and no random affixes. Every copy starts at the same 15.00%, and differences only come from its rank. You never have to hunt for a good copy; you only have to decide whether your build applies enough crowd control to make the slot worthwhile.
