The Pain Enhancer is a legendary gem that turns every critical hit into an ongoing bleed: over several seconds the struck enemy takes additional physical damage. This effect slots into any build, regardless of class, that brings high critical hit chance and relies on sustained extra damage.

Because the bleed scales with your weapon strength and is refreshed by every further crit (it does not stack), the gem especially pays off for fast builds with high hit frequency. At higher ranks it unfolds extra effects centered on bleeding enemies. Tip: Use the Pain Enhancer in a setup with reliably high crit chance and hammer as many enemies at once as possible — the wider you spread the bleeds, the more the creeping area damage adds up over time.

What Makes the Bleed

The only trigger is a critical hit, no matter which skill lands it. The bleed deals 2,500.0% weapon damage as Physical over 3 seconds. Because it is based on weapon damage, it grows automatically with a stronger weapon without the gem itself having to change. The damage is Physical, so bonuses that only help another element do not strengthen it.

Critical Hit Chance as the Lever

Since only crits cause bleeding, your critical hit chance is the key value for this gem. A bleed lasts 3 seconds, and if you crit the same enemy again within that time, you refresh it. Against large groups, a skill with many hits spreads the bleed across that many targets at once. Against single targets, what counts is how reliably you crit again within those 3 seconds.

The flavor text tells of Xiangyi, most beautiful of the Xiansai master gem cutters. She crafted this gem in honor of a former lover, and the angrier she got, the faster she worked, so the gem was ready in no time. She was only satisfied once she had tested its efficacy herself.
