"For love of the nephalem Philios, I will leave this weapon behind, and exchange the powers of Heaven for the peace of Sanctuary." –The angel Lycander
Ahavarion, Spear of Lycander
The Ahavarion gives you a chance to gain a random shrine effect each time you kill a demon. In practice that means a steady stream of free buffs like speed, damage, or resource bonuses while fighting demonic enemies, without ever stepping on an actual shrine. Its value scales with how dense and demon-heavy the waves are.
Since the effect ignores class and skill, the staff fits any build grinding through demons that doesn't need a fixed weapon power. Because the randomness offers no guaranteed synergy, you rarely see it in serious push builds; as a fun speed or transition item, though, it shines. Fill its socket with a damage or utility gem.
What the Power Specifies and What It Leaves Open
Two conditions are built into the power: the enemy you kill has to be a demon, and the trigger is only a chance whose size the text does not state. Which shrine effect you receive is random, so you can neither choose it nor repeat it on purpose. Against enemies that are not demons, the staff does nothing special and only counts through its stats. The only thing you can plan is how many demons you kill; the more of them fall, the more chances the power gets.
The Staff's Fixed Stats
Holy damage of (1,177–1,439)–(1,410–1,788) and a socket are fixed. A Primal Ancient copy has the Holy damage at the top of both ranges. The staff deals 1229-1839 damage at 1.10 attacks per second and is a two-handed weapon, so no off-hand slot remains free. A follower can wield it as well. If one of the other properties rolls poorly, the Mystic can enchant it anew.
Lycander's Farewell
The flavor text gives the word to the angel Lycander: for love of the nephalem Philios, he leaves this weapon behind and exchanges the powers of Heaven for the peace of Sanctuary. Ahavarion is thus the weapon an angel left behind when he chose Sanctuary.
