Energy Twister

Energy Twister unleashes a wandering tornado of pure energy that strikes enemies in its path over several seconds. The spell loves it when foes are crammed into a tight space, because there they keep brushing against the twister and rack up considerable damage over time.

The runes change feel and reach dramatically. Raging Storm lets two twisters merge into one giant tornado that covers a larger area and deals vastly more damage, which is why it underpins many twister builds. Wicked Wind instead pins the twister in place, so you can deliberately lay it down as a damage carpet under enemies rather than hoping for its random wandering. Storm Chaser also ties the spell into your signature spells and discharges stored lightning charges, which suits active, combined rotations.

Cost and runes at a glance

A twister costs 35 Arcane Power and deals 1525% weapon damage over 6 seconds. Mistral Breeze (level 19) lowers the cost to 25 and switches to Cold, and Gale Force (level 24) makes enemies hit take 15% more Fire damage. Raging Storm arrives at level 36, Wicked Wind at level 41 and Storm Chaser at level 52. In practice Mistral Breeze and Wicked Wind show up most.

Four items, four kinds of twister

  • Etched Sigil: while channeling Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate or Ray of Frost, you cast a twister every second with 200–250% more damage. With Arcane Torrent you channel, and the twisters appear on the side.
  • Ranslor's Folly: 225–300% more damage, and the twisters periodically pull in lesser enemies within 30 yards, a good match for stationary Wicked Wind twisters.
  • The Twisted Sword: 125–150% more damage per twister you have out, up to 3, and Raging Storm is applied automatically.
  • Valthek's Rebuke: twisters travel in a straight line and deal 300–400% more damage.

Delsere's Magnum Opus

This set links Energy Twister to Slow Time: hits trigger the bubble, and inside it the cooldown of Teleport resets. With 4 pieces you take 75% less damage while Slow Time is active, and with 6 pieces enemies inside take 20,000% more damage from Energy Twister. Magic Weapon, Storm Armor, Audacity and Galvanizing Ward complete the kit.
