Sacrifice
Sacrifice banishes one of your summoned Zombie Dogs, making it explode for physical damage to nearby enemies. The skill lives off its synergy with Zombie Dogs, so without a pack at your side you have nothing to spend. In dog-centric builds it becomes a bursty damage dump you weave between summons.
To avoid ending up with an empty kennel, Next of Kin is popular: sacrificed dogs have a chance to immediately return as a fresh dog, keeping both your pack and your damage rolling. For pure single-target and boss pressure, For the Master is strong, since every dog charges a target at once and unloads concentrated damage. If you would rather recover resources, Pride refunds mana. That lets you decide whether Sacrifice should provide reinforcements, burst, or resources.
Runes by unlock level
- Black Blood (from level 18): ichor from the corpse stuns enemies for 3 seconds.
- Next of Kin (level 24): a 35% chance for the sacrificed dog to return as a new Zombie Dog.
- Pride (level 36): 280 Mana per sacrificed dog.
- For the Master (level 41): all dogs charge one target at once, each for 1300% weapon damage.
- Provoke the Pack (level 51): 20% increased damage for 5 seconds after every Sacrifice; the most common choice in practice, since it lifts all of your damage.
Swamp Land Waders as an amplifier
Swamp Land Waders raise Sacrifice's damage by 300–400% against enemies affected by Locust Swarm or Grasp of the Dead. So you first lay one of those skills on the pack and then detonate the dogs. A roll near 400% is clearly worth chasing here.
Keeping the dogs coming
Sacrifice needs Zombie Dogs, supplied by Summon Zombie Dogs and Fierce Loyalty: the passive allows one extra dog and raises your movement speed while you have minions. The 12-yard blast radius rewards holding enemies together beforehand, and Horrify fears them in place. Soul Harvest, Spirit Walk and Gruesome Feast cover Intelligence, escape and Mana.
