Hungering Arrow
Hungering Arrow is the Demon Hunter's classic resource builder, topping up the Hatred you need for your expensive spenders. The fired arrow seeks out a target on its own and can pierce through enemies, letting it strike several foes in a row when packs are tightly grouped. You need a bow or crossbow for it and spam the skill constantly to keep Hatred flowing.
Among the runes, Devouring Arrow stands out because every pierce increases the arrow's damage by 70%, so it ramps up hard in dense packs. If you want faster resource generation instead, Serrated Arrow raises the Hatred it produces and switches the damage to Fire, which pairs nicely with matching damage bonuses. That lets you tune the arrow to your element and playstyle.
Your first skill and its runes
Hungering Arrow is available from level 1: 155% weapon damage, 4 Hatred per shot and a 35% chance to pierce enemies. The runes arrive early:
- Puncturing Arrow (level 6): pierce chance raised to 50%.
- Serrated Arrow (level 17): 7 Hatred, Fire damage.
- Shatter Shot (level 26): after the first pierce the arrow splits into 3, damage as Lightning.
- Devouring Arrow (level 42): Cold damage, plus 70% per pierce, the dominant pick in practice.
- Spray of Teeth (level 52): Critical Hits trigger a bone burst dealing 60% weapon damage within 10 yards.
The Ninth Cirri Satchel
Without help, piercing is down to luck, and so is the Devouring Arrow bonus. The quiver The Ninth Cirri Satchel changes that: the arrow is guaranteed to pierce, up to 4 times, and deals 450–600% more damage. With Devouring Arrow, each of those pierces raises the damage further, turning the generator into a serious damage component.
What the arrow feeds
The Hatred it generates usually flows into Strafe, which fires at random nearby enemies while you move. Preparation and Smoke Screen keep Discipline and safety in balance, Vengeance and Ambush raise damage, and Fan of Knives clears enemies close by.
