Grenadier

Grenadier is a passive for grenade-heavy builds: it increases grenade damage, enlarges their explosion radius, and lets you leave behind a huge grenade on death that hits hard. It's thus a focused amplifier for any build that uses grenades as a serious damage source, whether through the Grenade skill itself or through items that produce grenades.

The passive is worthwhile above all when a noticeable part of your damage actually comes from grenades. The larger explosion radius additionally helps hit more enemies, improving your area output. If instead you play without grenades, the main bonus goes completely to waste and only the death effect remains, which is hardly enough on its own. So check whether your setup uses grenade damage at all before picking it.

The three parts in detail

  • Damage: grenades deal 10% more damage.
  • Radius: explosions grow by 20% and catch more enemies in a pack.
  • Death effect: when you die, a giant grenade is left behind that explodes for 1000% weapon damage as Fire.

The passive unlocks at level 45.

Where the grenades come from

Grenades are not limited to the skill of the same name. Cluster Arrow splits into grenades on impact, and the Personal Mortar rune of Vengeance fires grenades instead of homing rockets. Individual runes of Rapid Fire, Strafe and Rain of Vengeance also turn their projectiles into grenades. How much Grenadier gives you therefore depends on how many of these sources you use; a single grenade rune rarely justifies the slot.

Fitting partners

Vengeance is the most obvious partner, since Personal Mortar turns it into a grenade source itself. Cull the Weak boosts damage against slowed or chilled enemies and Ambush against enemies with high health, and both stack with the grenade bonus. Companion and Smoke Screen cover extra damage and brief invisibility, while Evasive Fire generates Hatred and backflips you out of harm's way.
