Fragment of Destruction
This soul shard revolves around the Mark of Destruction: you move unhindered through enemies, branding them with the mark as you go. When a marked enemy dies, the cooldown of one of your skills is reduced – a powerful loop that massively boosts your pace and cooldown availability while plowing through crowds. If the mark expires, however, you take damage yourself, and below a life threshold it isn't applied at all.
The shard is class-independent and excellent for aggressive, mobile builds that surge through large packs. Its many defensive and utility bonuses also make it remarkably sturdy. Practical tip: keep moving and ensure marked enemies die quickly – that way the mark rarely expires, you avoid the self-damage, and you keep your important skills constantly ready.
The Mark's Rules in Detail
The mark lasts 7 seconds. If the enemy dies within that time, one of your skills on cooldown loses 1 second. If the mark expires first, it costs you 2% of your maximum health. Below 35% health no marks are applied, which keeps expired marks from pushing you into danger. The power has no roll range.
Fixed Stats and Two Random Properties
Fixed are 23–25% Life, 12.5–15% cooldown reduction, 12.5–15% resource cost reduction, 32–35% extra gold from monsters and bonus experience (4.1–5% at level 70). The first random property is defensive or an attribute: all resistance, armor, reduced melee or ranged damage taken, or a main stat or Vitality at 946–1,125. The second extends the mark:
- Healing: a 25% chance to restore 5% Life when a marked enemy dies.
- Speed: every mark you apply raises movement speed by 5% for 7 seconds, up to 10 stacks.
- Flame trail: marked enemies below 10% Life die instantly when they touch your trail.
The flame trail directly lowers the risk of a mark expiring, since it finishes off weakened enemies.
