Pool of the item type from the game files, version 2.8.0. Skill damage bonuses only carry weight for their class. All properties of this slot
The Quinblades are the only surviving weapons forged by master swordsmith Morad Peerse, each a unique expression of his craft. The aptly-named Deathwish was the last weapon he forged. Despairing over his unhappy life, Peerse decided to craft his masterwork. Pulling the red-hot blade from the forge, the smith fell upon it, quenching the sword in his own blood and imbuing it with an arcane shard of his very soul.
Deathwish
This sword rewards channeling: as soon as you maintain Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate or Ray of Frost for at least one second without breaking, all of your damage shoots up. This isn't a minor bonus but one of the biggest damage multipliers a Wizard can put on a beam.
For the Wizard the weapon is the centerpiece of any channeling build. The catch: the bonus only holds while the beam is running, so you must keep it uninterrupted and your resources topped up. Practical tip: keep the channel going as continuously as possible and plan your defenses so you rarely have to stop – every interruption costs you the full multiplier, and with it the bulk of your damage.
Why Long Channels Count Twice
The sword is not the only thing waiting a second: all three spells ramp up their own damage for every second you channel. Ray of Frost grows from 430% to as much as 1240% weapon damage, Arcane Torrent from 400% to 1010%, Disintegrate from 390% to 890%. Restarting the beam therefore throws away the sword's bonus and the built-up base damage at the same time. The bonus itself sits at 250–325%, so a high roll clearly pays off.
Runes for a Sustained Beam
Cold Blood lowers the channeling cost of Ray of Frost to 11 Arcane Power, which directly helps you hold on. Death Blossom pushes Arcane Torrent up to 2495% weapon damage but takes away control over where the missiles fly. Intensify on Disintegrate and Snow Blast on Ray of Frost each make struck enemies take 15% more damage of the matching element.
Stats, Cube and Story
The sword has no fixed affixes: it rolls +626–750 of a main stat and +(981–1,199)–(1,175–1,490) damage of one element - pick the element of your beam. Extracted, the power works just as well in the weapon slot of Kanai's Cube if you prefer to wield another blade. It is often combined with the Mantle of Channeling, Ashnagarr's Blood Bracer and the Halo of Karini. According to the flavor text, Deathwish was the last of master swordsmith Morad Peerse's Quinblades: he fell upon the red-hot blade and imbued it with an arcane shard of his soul.
