Bone Spikes That Explode
Bryner's Journey gives the Necromancer's Bone Spikes an extra dimension: with a healthy chance, your hits trigger a Bone Nova at the target location. A focused single attack regularly becomes a small area explosion - two bone skills effectively merge into one.
That is why these boots fit ideally into builds that use Bone Spikes as a reliable main attack and welcome extra area damage. In dense enemy groups especially, the triggered Bone Nova makes for far better clearing without you having to fire off another skill manually. My tip: deliberately aim your Bone Spikes into enemy groups so the triggered Bone Nova catches as many foes as possible at once - that quietly turns single-target damage into effective area damage.
What the chance means in practice
The trigger chance rolls between 20 and 30%; a copy at 25% sits right in the middle. At 20%, roughly every fifth attack produces a Nova on average; with a Primal Ancient at 30%, it's nearly every third. Because the chance is tied to attacks with Bone Spikes, any extra Attack Speed also raises the number of Novas. You normally know Bone Nova as a rune of Death Nova - here you get it without spending any Essence.
The right rune for Bone Spikes
Bone Spikes generates 24 Essence per cast and deals 120% weapon damage as Physical.
- Frost Spikes slows enemies by 60% for 2 seconds, keeping them in the area where the Nova lands for longer.
- Blood Spikes makes enemies bleed and heals you for 0.5% of your total life.
- Bone Pillars strikes the target and up to two nearby enemies, while Path of Bones sends out a line of spikes.
- Sudden Impact stuns enemies for 1 second.
Stats and background
The boots roll a main stat at 416 to 500 points - Intelligence for a Necromancer. They carry no fixed extra stats; everything else is random, and the Mystic can reroll one property.
