Demon's Hide – the stronger retaliation
Demon's Hide is the beefier evolution of the retaliation idea: melee and ranged attackers take a solid burst of Fire damage on every hit, joined by a chance for area damage on your own strikes, more damage against demons, and the occasional reflected projectile. Compared to the lighter Demon's Skin, the values are noticeably higher.
The set is class-agnostic and fits best on mid difficulties or a deliberately defensive, thematic build. Practical tip: the added area damage is the genuinely interesting bonus, because it boosts your active output against dense packs – more so than pure reflection damage, which can't keep up at endgame. Use Demon's Hide when mowing down crowds, but switch to a dedicated damage set for real Greater Rift pushing.
What each tier brings
At two pieces, melee and ranged attackers take 6000 Fire Thorns damage per hit. The third piece gives you a chance to deal 25% area damage on hit – the only bonus in the set tied to your own attacks. The first tier's Thorns damage, by contrast, only triggers when you are hit yourself. Four pieces add 15% more damage to demons and the occasional reflected projectile.
That sets the priorities: if you wear the set for the area damage, you need at least three pieces without the ring in the cube; the demon bonus is an extra for zones full of demons. Four of the five pieces cover everything, and with the Ring of Royal Grandeur in the cube even three will do.
Hide or Skin?
Demon's Skin uses the same five slots with similar-sounding pieces. Demon's Hide consists of Demon's Aileron (shoulders), Demon's Animus (bracers), Demon's Marrow (chest), Demon's Plate (pants) and Demon's Restraint (belt). Skin pieces like Demon's Flight or Demon's Lock do not count here – only items labeled Demon's Hide in the tooltip do.
