Blackthorne's Battlegear – comfort and resilience

Blackthorne's Battlegear is a utility set built mainly for relaxed farming. Its bonuses pile on vitality, more damage against elites and less damage taken from them, plus bonus gold. The real star, though, is the four-piece effect: you become immune to the irritating ground effects of Desecrator, Molten and Plagued enemies – exactly the pools that kill most often in the chaos of fast rifting.

Since the set is class-agnostic, it suits any character that wants to plow safely through low to mid difficulties. Practical tip: Blackthorne's excels at speed farming and casual gold-gathering, but pure damage sets push it aside once you're seriously climbing Greater Rifts. Reach for it when convenience matters more than the last sliver of damage.

Which bonus applies when

The elite effects are split across two tiers. Two pieces give you +250 Vitality and 10.0% more damage against elites; only the third piece reduces the damage they deal to you by 10.0% and adds 25% extra gold from monsters. Immunity to Desecrator, Molten and Plagued ground effects requires four pieces. If that immunity is your reason to wear the set, you have to build it out to the last tier.

Five pieces, four needed

The set consists of the amulet Blackthorne's Duncraig Cross, Blackthorne's Jousting Mail (pants), Blackthorne's Notched Belt, Blackthorne's Spurs (boots) and Blackthorne's Surcoat (chest). Because the top bonus sits at four pieces, one of them is left over – you decide which slot you would rather fill with something else. With the Ring of Royal Grandeur in the cube, three Blackthorne pieces are enough for the immunity. Duplicate pieces can be converted into another piece of the set in Kanai's Cube.
