Stain of Sin
The Stain of Sin is a Soulshard built entirely around fighting elites. You give up part of your damage dealt, but in exchange, after enough kills, you create a pool of blood that drastically raises the damage elites take. Depending on the rolled bonus, the pool also negates elite affixes or collects rift progress orbs, or elite packs drop an extra progress orb - a clear boon for efficient Greater Rift clearing.
So the shard rewards an aggressive style that mows down trash first to ignite the pool, then drags elites into it. Tip: drop the blood pool right under an elite group and, with the affix-negation roll, use the window while their affixes are disabled to finish them off without their most dangerous effects. Make sure your remaining damage is high enough to offset the self-penalty, or your clear times turn sluggish.
The Numbers Behind the Blood Pool
The penalty always applies: 25% less damage dealt. After 50 kills, the blood pool appears and raises the damage elites take by 150% for 15 seconds. Each new pool therefore costs another 50 kills - in sparsely populated areas that takes noticeably longer than in dense ones.
Fixed Stats That Cushion the Penalty
The shard brings strong fixed affixes: 130–150% Critical Hit Damage, 20–25% increased damage against elites, +270–300 Damage, +28,000–30,000 Life per Hit and +38,000–40,000 Thorns Damage. It also rolls one offensive stat: 12–15% Attack Speed, 10–15% Damage, 7–10% Critical Hit Chance or 20–25% to one element. For the element, pick the one your main damage uses.
Which Special Effect Fits
The blood pool can collect rift progress orbs or cancel elite affixes within its area; alternatively, every elite group you kill drops an extra progress orb. The flavor text captures the mood: no matter how you try, the blood you wash from your hands keeps spreading.
