What the set does

This build wears Pestilence Master's Shroud. These bonuses apply once the matching number of set pieces is equipped — the damage multiplier hangs on them, not on the individual stats of the pieces:

2 pieces: Each corpse you consume fires a Corpse Lance at a nearby enemy.
4 pieces: Each enemy you hit with Bone Spear, Corpse Lance and Corpse Explosion reduces your damage taken by 2%, up to a maximum of 50%. Lasts 15 seconds.
6 pieces: Each corpse you consume grants you an Empowered Bone Spear charge that increases the damage of your next Bone Spear by 3300%. In addition, Corpse Lance and Corpse Explosion damage is increased by 3300%.

How the variants differ

Measured against the push version. Anything not listed here stays the same:

Speed farming: swaps in skills Bone Armor (Thy Flesh Sustained), Corpse Lance (Shredding Splinters), Blood Rush (Hemostasis); cube Messerschmidt's Reaver, The Furnace.
Torment 16 / Nephalem rifts: swaps in skills Bone Armor (Thy Flesh Sustained), Corpse Lance (Shredding Splinters), Blood Rush (Molting); cube Messerschmidt's Reaver, Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac; gems Boon of the Hoarder.

Sockets and gems

The 3 legendary gems (Bane of the Trapped, Zei's Stone of Vengeance, Bane of the Powerful) belong in the jewellery slots — that is the only place their rank counts, and the only place they keep growing when you upgrade after a Greater Rift.

The remaining 7 sockets are filled with Ruby: the multiplier already comes from the set and the legendary powers, so one more base stat does more there than another effect would.

On the season theme

Shades of the Nephalem spawns a shadow clone of your class at every shrine and pylon that fights along for one minute. Activate shrines inside the pull, not on the way there. The fourth cube slot is already filled in every variant above.
