Weapon Throw

Weapon Throw is a ranged barbarian skill that generates fury at the same time and so doubles as a resource builder. It lets you engage enemies from a safe distance or play a furious opener before you close into melee – a rare ranged option for an otherwise very up-close class.

If you want to maximise raw damage, Mighty Throw raises the value sharply and converts it to lightning. If you care about resources, Balanced Weapon is appealing, since it increases the fury generated and shifts the damage to fire. Against groups Ricochet adds value, since the weapon leaps to additional enemies and so hits several targets at once.

Balanced Weapon and the other runes

Weapon Throw unlocks at level 17: 6 Fury per attack and 275% weapon damage. Mighty Throw (level 21) raises it to 400% as Lightning, and Ricochet (level 25) bounces to up to 3 enemies within 20 yards. Throwing Hammer (level 33) has a 40% chance to stun for 1 second, while Stupefy (level 42) has a 15% chance to Confuse for 3 seconds so the target attacks other enemies. Balanced Weapon (level 54) raises Fury per throw to 9 and is the usual pick in practice.

Spears and The Legacy of Raekor

The spear Arreat's Law generates up to 15–20 additional Fury depending on how far away the target is, with the maximum reached at 20 yards or more, so throwing from range deliberately pays off. The Three Hundredth Spear raises the damage of Weapon Throw and Ancient Spear.

In The Legacy of Raekor, every Weapon Throw hit boosts your next Ancient Spear by 2500% and makes it split into multiple spears at the target. The effect stacks, and each spear throw consumes up to 5 stacks. Weapon Throw thus becomes a feeder: several throws charge up the next spear and generate the Fury to pay for it.

Ancient Spear and Furious Charge

Ancient Spear and Furious Charge form the backbone of the Raekor set together with Weapon Throw, since both are named in its bonuses. Ignore Pain, Battle Rage, Wrath of the Berserker and Rampage round it out.
