Ground Stomp

Ground Stomp is a control skill that stuns every enemy in a solid radius for several seconds while also granting you Fury. It's excellent for briefly disabling dangerous packs and buying yourself room for your own attacks.

If you want to widen the area and bunch enemies up for a hit, Wrenching Smash is strong, since foes are pulled in before the stomp. If you need the control more often, Deafening Crash lowers the cooldown and tacks a heavy slow onto the stunned enemies. So Ground Stomp can act as a gathering tool or as a reliable, frequently available crowd-control button.

The remaining runes and when they unlock

Ground Stomp is available from level 4, making it one of the first Barbarian skills. The runes:

  • Deafening Crash (level 12): cooldown of 8 instead of 12 seconds, then an 80% slow for 8 seconds.
  • Wrenching Smash (level 18): 24-yard radius plus a pull – the usual choice in practice.
  • Trembling Stomp (level 28): an extra 575% weapon damage as Fire.
  • Foot of the Mountain (level 40): 30 Fury instead of 15 per use.
  • Jarring Slam (level 54): enemies hit have a chance to drop a health globe.

Band of Might and Dread Iron

The ring Band of Might reduces damage taken by 60–80% for 8 seconds after you use Ground Stomp. With a 12-second base cooldown – or 8 with Deafening Crash – Ground Stomp becomes a regular source of protection. The mighty belt Dread Iron makes every Ground Stomp trigger an Avalanche.

In the Might of the Earth set, the cooldown drops by 1 second for every 30 Fury you spend with an attack, and the 6-piece bonus raises Ground Stomp damage by 37,500%.

Gathering for Whirlwind

Ground Stomp frequently appears alongside Whirlwind. Wrenching Smash pulls enemies to one point, the stun holds them there for 4 seconds, and Whirlwind then hits the whole pack. Battle Rage and Wrath of the Berserker join in, along with the passives Ruthless, Rampage and Berserker Rage.
